Team Roles

A Little League team is more than just the players, it is also a group of dedicated volunteers that support the players and parents to help make each season the best that it can be.

Team Managers

Team Managers are both a head coach and the person responsible for drafting (where applicable), scheduling practices, communicating with parents, seeking helpers and more! Fortunately Team Managers are not alone. The best Team Managers  know how to get the most out of their players, and their parents. Little League Baseball runs on volunteers and getting your team's parents involved is the key to a successful season. Your team will need to have parents who step up for the following roles (at a minimum):

  • Coaches- 2
  • Team Parent - 1
  • Score Keepers - 2
  • Field Preparation- 2

Coaches

Coaches assist the Team Manager with running practices and developing players. They typically assist during games as base coaches and helping manage the players in the dugout. A team's coaching staff is vital to running a team, it simply isn't possible to manage an effective team without a great team of coaches helping out.

Team Parent

A Team Parent assists the Manager with all of the off the field duties including communicating with parents, scheduling snack bar volunteers, seeking sponsors, helping with fundraising and more.

Score Keeper

Your team must provide scorekeepers for Home games. It is best to have at least 2 scorekeepers, one to run the scorebook, and one to run the scoreboard.  Failure to provide a scorekeeper for a game is grounds for forfeit, so having a few scorekeepers is recommended. Scorekeeping may seem like a daunting task, but we provide a scorekeeper training every season, and there is usually someone around to help out.

Volunteer Umpires

Citrus Little League is looking for Volunteer Umpires for the Minor and Major Divisions (Juniors and Seniors if the volunteers have experience). If you are interested, please reach out to [email protected]

Field Maintenance

Game day is hectic and your team's managers and coaches need to be able to focus on warm-ups, lineups, shoe tying and much more. Our fields are only as good as the maintenance they receive and must be groomed and watered before each game. We also need to maintain our mounds and batter's boxes to ensure a safe and high performing field for the players. This requires additional volunteers to free up the coaches to help the players. It is recommended that a team have at least two volunteers to assist with field maintenance.
